A follow-up may occasionally slip through, especially when a recruiter is managing several clients and a high volume of applications. Each recruiter has their own way of working, guided by the values of the firm they representand this can directly influence the candidate’s experience.

That said, it’s essential to understand that your relationship with a recruiter is based on mutual collaboration. While the recruiter has a duty to follow up with you, it’s equally appreciated when a candidate takes initiative. Unlike a direct relationship with an employer, communication with a recruiter is meant to be open and built on trust — you can speak more freely about your job search and situation. A simple email or LinkedIn message is often enough to demonstrate your seriousness, interest, and professionalism.

It’s important to keep your recruiter informed of your ongoing job search and to remain transparent. Many candidates mistakenly believe that applying directly to a job posting and going through a recruiter increases their chances of landing an interview. In fact, it’s quite the opposite: once an application has been submitted directly to the company, the recruiter can no longer represent you. Their role is to present profiles that the employer has not already identified.

Another point worth clarifying is compensationSome candidates wrongly assume that recruiters take a percentage directly from their salary — like a “cut” that reduces their pay. In reality, that’s not the case at all. The client company pays for an external HR service, just like it would for any other professional service. Recruitment fees are therefore covered by the employer who hires the firm and have no impact on the salary offered to the candidate..

In most cases, recruiters are employees of the recruitment firm and are paid by the company they work for.Depending on internal structure, they may also receive a performance-based bonus tied to successful placements or results. However, these terms are determined by their employer and can vary from one organization to another, as each company has its own practices.

In conclusion

Working with a recruiter is much more than a single step in the hiring process — it’s about building a collaborative relationship founded on trust, transparency, and active listening. This partnership can open doors, provide access to exclusive opportunities, and offer valuable guidance to help you make informed career choices. In other words, it’s a process that contributes to your professional success — today and in the future.

D’abord, il est important de comprendre que rencontrer un recruteur ne garantit pas automatiquement un emploi.
